Nervous System Regulation
To build resilience and flexibility in your nervous system, and create a felt sense of safety. When your system is stuck in threat, it’s not a mindset issue—it’s a survival response. This part of the work helps you gently shift out of fight, flight, freeze, and fawn by bringing your system into regulation. You’ll learn how to reconnect with your True Self, access your prefrontal cortex (your brain’s center for clarity and choice), and build a foundation of internal safety. Because healing can’t happen when your system still feels like it’s in danger.
Heart Coherence
To shift out of stress and reconnect with your inner wisdom. Heart coherence is a powerful, science-backed way to regulate your system by aligning your heart, brain, and emotions. When you learn to access it, you send a signal of safety through your entire body—allowing you to feel calm, grounded, and connected to yourself. This isn’t woo. It’s neuroscience. And it creates the conditions your system needs to heal from shame.
Parts Work/IFS
You’ll learn the step-by-step process for working with your Inner Critics, and learn about the 7 different types of Inner Critics. You’ll also work with your other Protector Parts related to Shame, like the People-Pleasing Part, the Anxious Part, the Numbing Part, the Anger Part, the Overthinking Part, the Ruminating Part, etc… This work helps you recognize those Parts, understand what they’ve been trying to protect you from, and support them in letting go of the extreme roles they’ve been stuck in. You’ll stop being taken over by self-criticism, spiraling thoughts, and anxiety — because you’ll learn how to take those Protector Parts out of the extreme roles they’ve been placed in..
Self-Compassion Work
Self-Compassion is necessary for healing, as you can’t heal shame by shaming yourself. This part of the work teaches you how to meet yourself with compassion, even when Parts of you feel hard to love. \ Because true resilience comes from safety—not pressure. And when your system finally receives the care it needed all along, it stops bracing for attack. You’ll learn even more tools to connect to your True Self and nurture the Parts of you that needs it.
Cognitive Restructuring
To rewire the beliefs that keep you stuck in shame and self-doubt. Most of your self-critical thoughts aren’t actually you—they’re echoes of past experiences. This part of the work helps you identify and untangle those old belief patterns, so you can stop automatically believing the shame story.
Attachment & Relational Healing
To feel safe with others and show up authentically in relationships. When you’ve been hurt, rejected, or abandoned, it impacts how you show up with others. You might expect rejection, shut down during conflict, or stay silent to avoid being too much. This part of the framework helps you more deeply understand your attachment patterns, and nurture the Parts of yourself that have been hurt – which is the root of the shame.

What can I expect to gain from this?
You can expect– if you’re going slowly through the material and doing the practices– to see results within the first 2-3 months. Within 6 months, students start to see huge shifts, such as connecting to their true self, a large reduction in anxiety, joy, a release of shame, compassion for themselves (and their Parts), etc..
How long will The Befriending Your Parts Framework take to complete?
The course material is meant to go slow. I suggest listening to 30 minutes to 1 hour of video content per week to give your system the time to digest. This is about healing and rewiring, so the time in between to digest and do the practices are where the healing takes place.
Why have community? I don't feel comfortable with others I don't know.
This is so common and natural to feel this way. I speak about this on the webinar at the end. So many students join saying they don’t like groups or community, and then later say it was the greatest piece of their healing. Every single student who has joined the BYP community calls it “the safest space”—and this is so healing to your system. There is something so powerful in not feeling alone.

If I am not big on the writing exercises, can I skip them?
The important thing is that you listen to your body — If it doesn’t eel like the right time to do that exercise, honour that. You can skip any exercise you need to in that moment. There is no pass or fail in The Befriending Your Parts Framework!
